Abstract

The purpose of the publication is to clarify the features of the development of family wineries in the
Transcarpathian region during the years of Ukraine’s independence.
Results. Currently, the Transcarpathian region ranks fifth among the six «grape» regions of Ukraine. Transcarpathian
winemakers have switched to craft wine production, focusing on quality. One of the first who managed to introduce new
standards into wine production in Transcarpathia was Ivan Ursta, a winemaker from the Beregivskyi district. Another
winemaker, Oleksandr Shosh, works in Mukachevo region and specializes in the production of organic natural wines. Among modern winemakers, it is worth mentioning Oleksandr Kovach, founder of the Kovach Family Winery winery in the village of Kontsovo. In the Transcarpathian region, over 64% of production is concentrated in households. Currently, there are about a hundred active winemakers in Transcarpathia. Small winemakers have united in the Association of Winegrowers, Winemakers and Distillers of Transcarpathia, which plans to register the geographical indication “Wines of the Silver Land”. This will mean not only a quality mark for traditional products, but also a powerful impetus for economic and cultural development.
Conclusions. Transcarpathia was and, despite all the hardships, remains a region with strong traditions of viticulture
and winemaking. With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, the state support program was
completely reformatted. This was primarily due to the change in the priority of expenditures on the defense sector of our state. Licensed family wineries in Ukraine make up only 6% of the total number of wine producers. For comparison, in France there are 65 thousand producers and 15 thousand family wineries. Therefore, European experience shows that family wineries are an effective form of doing business in the field of viticulture and winemaking. Ukraine in general, and Transcarpathia in particular, has a significant development resource in this direction.
