Abstract

The purpose of the article is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the monograph Fedir Lyzohub – Prime
Minister of the Hetman Government (May–November 1918) by R. Pyrih and R. Tymchenko, to determine its scholarly significance, source base, methodological approaches, and the authors’ contribution to the study of Fedir Lyzohub’s personality and the functioning of the governmental institutions of the Ukrainian State in 1918.
Scientific novelty. The contribution of the monograph’s authors to the reconstruction of a holistic biographical and political portrait of Fedir Lyzohub from the late 19th to the early 20th century is revealed.
Conclusions. The monograph by R. Pyrih and R. Tymchenko is a substantial academic study that, on the basis of a
representative source base, comprehensively examines the origins, socio-political activities, ideological orientations, and
state-building efforts of Fedir Lyzohub. The authors convincingly reveal the peculiarities of the functioning of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian State, the role of its chairman in implementing reforms, his relations with Hetman Pavlo
Skoropadskyi and the German allies, as well as the Prime Minister’s influence on the key directions of domestic policy. The review emphasizes the high scholarly level of the work, its logical structure, critical treatment of sources, and the successful combination of political history with a biographical approach. It is stressed that the monograph significantly expands our understanding of the personal dimension of Ukrainian state-building during the Hetmanate period and constitutes an important contribution to contemporary Ukrainian historiography
